Dr. Kamini Rao's Master Class

Watch Padma Shri Dr Kamini Rao in a very engaging and inspiring conversation with Khushi Dinesh; a young International swimmer and one of the best long-distance swimmers in India. She has represented India in the World Junior Championships, Khelo India School Games and South Asian Aquatic Championship. Recipient of Ekalavya Award 2020, Khushi believes in going against the tide to create her success.

Strong Commitments

Perseverance, Hard Work, and Dedication; it takes years for a person to bring in those superior levels of commitment. A person who wholeheartedly believed that ‘the secret of getting ahead, is getting started’; Khushi states “The earlier you start the better it for you to learn and improve. I got to my best because I started early” underlining yet again that an early beginner is definitely an early doer and undeniably an early achiever.

Khushi started swimming at a tender age of 1.5 years in Vijayanagar Aquatic Centre. She began her formal training in Basavanagudi Aquatic Centre and has been training here since the last 15 years.

“My coach felt that my timing is just right and I have a bright future”

Being under the guidance of Dronacharya awardee Pradeep Kumar and Padmanabha Rao has played an essential role in her success. They are a constant source of inspiration for Khushi.

Crystal clear goals

“Swimming is my passion and that’s my priority.”

Such clarity of thoughts! and with such clarity comes the determination to work harder and achieve excellence of doing ordinary things extraordinarily well capturing the very essence of Dr Kamini Rao’s Master Class “Why be ordinary, when you can be extraordinary.” Setting the goals right starts with careful considerations of what we want to achieve; ensuring vision and action. Her goals backed by definite plans for the future will surely incite a tremendous feeling of confidence and power amongst the viewers, and that surely makes this episode a ‘must watch.’

Essence of self-discipline

Level of discipline often determines the level of success and surely is a bridge between our goals and accomplishments. Waking up at 4:30 in the morning, followed by several hours of rigorous training in the pool to yoga and gym sessions coupled with a strict diet; life hasn’t been a cakewalk for the 17-year-old athlete, but it was her sheer willpower which made her attain this stage of excellence. The results of her discipline and perseverance are already apparent.

Despite being driven by her ambitions to be recognized as an international swimmer, she was as focused on her academics and never let one take a toll on the other. This may seem hard but the results are priceless.

Is it worth the pain?

“Even if the water is ice cold, I have to swim and that's how I have been trained. I know what my goals are.”

It is said that suffering the pain of discipline is worthier than suffering the pain of regret. The shine in her eyes and the pride in her voice when she describes “All those pains are worth it in the end when you are standing on the podium when you win a medal and then you can see your dad proud of you and he's busy clicking pictures. The pain is all worth it.” is unmissable.
